Here are some selections from a book I’d like to publish called The Odd Liturgy, a book of prayers for the in-between times of life.
PRAYER FOR BRUSHING TEETH
May the words of my mouth
and the meditations of my heart
be pleasing to You
Oh Lord,
my Rock and my Redeemer
(From Psalm 19:14)
PRAYER FOR BATHING
Cleanse me with hyssop and I shall be clean
Wash me whiter than snow
(From Psalm 51:7)
PRAYER FOR WASHING HANDS
Give us clean hands, give us pure hearts
Let us not lift our souls to Another
(From Charlie Hall)
PRAYERS FOR THE KITCHEN
O Lord of pots and pans and things,
Since I have no time to be a great saint
by doing lovely things,
or watching late with Thee,
or dreaming in the dawnlight,
or storming Heaven’s gates,
Make me a saint by getting meals,
and washing up the plates.
Warm all the kitchen with Thy Love,
and light it with Thy peace;
Forgive me all my worrying,
and make my grumbling cease.
Thou who didst love to give men food
in room, or by the sea,
Accept the service that I do-
I do it unto Thee.
