Just about two years ago, a certain song was blowing up on YouTube and on the charts. This song was loved and hated by the masses and made a mess of money for this new “star.” This song… was named… Friday.
I avoided the fad at first. I try to be as hipsterish as possible without being a hipster. If something is blowing up in pop culture, I’d like to either say, “Yeah, I heard about that long ago” or “I could care less.” I am happy to say that I avoided “Gangnam Style” until right around Christmas.
But once I watched Friday, I dove right in. I listened to it every once in a while, just for goofs. I found a couple parodies that made me chuckle. But then the task came upon me to introduce it to my sister. So I did a little research.
I’m not sure if I should be proud or ashamed of this list I’ve compiled. I guess I’m proud for how extensive my search became, but kinda ashamed I spent so much time on it. (I was writing my thesis at this time, of course…smh.)
But as I am finding old files on my crashed hard drive where we had saved all my files from my crashed laptop (long story…), I came across this list and had to share it with the world.
So, if you are afraid of discovering the vast array of interpretations and parodies and creations that can come from one single YouTube video, run away, run away! But if you’ve got the guts to stick it out, I think you’ll find it interesting. Or not. Who knows. So let’s start at the very beginning, a very good place to start…

FRIDAY- JIMMY FALLON, STEPHEN COLBERT, THE ROOTS, AND TAYLOR HICKS- This is truly an epic version. I love it SO much.

FRIDAY- FUNNYZ- This is just one example of the awfully ridiculous parodies of Friday. Actually somewhat funny. z.
FRIDAY- DANNY DODGE OFFICIAL- What if Friday was…. a DEATH METAL SONG?!?! This. So much. Yes.
FRIDAY- RJOURNO- What if you slowed down “Friday” so it played five times slower? It would sound like spirits of the ocean calling to you as waves crash upon the shore… and this.
FRIDAY- FUN FUN FUN VERSION- Well, if you liked the part of Friday where she says “Fun” you’re gonna love this video.
FRIDAY- HITLER REACTION- If this is the first Hitler reaction video you’ve seen… I’m sorry.
FRIDAY- Tucker- A fun acoustic version by a group of guys with pretty good voices. It almost makes you like the song…
FRIDAY- THE MIDNIGHT BEAST- A British version of the above, though much more silly and sarcastic.
FRIDAY- DREW TABOR- Such a pretty version! Slowed down, acoustic, simple, sweet. It’s amazing how a simple interpretation can totally change your perspective on a song!
FRIDAY- D AT SEA- Then again, there is this SCREAMO version. Of course, they admit their song is pretty bad, but I’m actually rather impressed!
FRIDAY- SONGSTA FOR LIFE- An A Capella version. Pretty cool.
FRIDAY- NICK JONAS- For any Jonas Brothers fans out there, he once sang a verse of the classic… enjoy.
THURSDAY- CONAN O’BRIEN- Wow. This song is pretty terrible. Yet hilarious.
SATURDAY- THE SAMPLER- This is pretty bad as well. There are quite a few similar parodies out there…
SUNDAY- ANTIOCH COMMUNITY CHURCH- This is a version made by some people at the church I attended in my freshman year at Baylor. It was a fun video made for the Antioch volunteers, and it’s good as that, just a simple fun video for a group of friends.
FRIDAY- KATY PERRY- She joins in the fun!
RAVENCLAWS- GinnyIsAPrincess- A Harry Potter Version. Come on, you had to see this coming!
FRIDAY- CHAD VADER- If you explore YouTube at all, you know Chad Vader. And if you don’t, sorry, other than the helmet, there’s little connection to Star Wars. (Though there are some light sabers…)
FRIDAY (NIGHTMARE VERSION)- VARIASAM2- This is just creepy. You should probably avoid it.
FRIDAY- MATT MULLHOLLAND- This dark, soulful cover is pretty amazing. Like, really amazing.
FRIDAY- YUKON HIGH SCHOOL JAZZ CHOIR- Like Glee, but without all the auto-tune. Pretty cool.
FRIDAY- EPIC MULLET GUY- If it wasn’t for the mullet gimmick, you probably wouldn’t watch this. But he really does have a great voice!
FRIDAY- With a Surprise- If you’ve already grown tired of the song, you might enjoy this. And shame on you!
FRIDAY/BABY MASHUP- DJ MAX GRAHAM- This is pretty horrible, but it is interesting how similar they are…
FRIDAY- GLOZELL- Come on, it’s GloZell, you gotta love GloZell!
FRIDAY- NO AUTOTUNE VERSION- It’s pretty stupid, snarky, and badly made. But you might like it.
GAME DAY- RKB PRODUCTIONS- A song for Vancouver Canucks fans. And maybe that’s it.
EARTH DAY- OAK PARK HIGH SCHOOL- Ok, you’re gonna use “Friday” to promote Earth Day? … Sorry Mother Earth.
FRIDAY- CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY CHAPEL BAND- This is pretty silly and fun. Glad the audience enjoys it.
FRIDAY- STAR WARS PARODY- If you were sad about Chad Vader, here ya go! The Friday Force be with you!
LIKE IT- DEREK HOLT- A Facebook Parody? … Ok.
FRIDAY- BATMAN- Yep. Batman even jumps on the craze.
FRIDAY- BO BURNHAM- Just another cover.
FRIDAY- STRING QUARTET COVER- Another fun musical interpretation.
FRIDAY- A ONE ACT PLAY- The Charlottesville Community Players perform this… masterpiece. It’s truly life-changing, utterly amazing, and delves into the meaning of exis…. ok, I honestly have never watched the whole thing. It’s 10 minutes. Way too long.
